Western Pride Women have bounced back to form with a confidence-boosting 7-0 win over SWQ Thunder Women at Briggs Road Complex on Sunday.
Veronica Williams starred with a hattrick for Pride, who showed no scars of last weekend’s defeat to Peninsula Power Women.
Williams did most of the damage inside the first 30 minutes, joined on the scoresheet in the opening half an hour by Laura Welfare.
The first-half belonged to Williams though as she put Pride 4-0 ahead at half time, a much needed break for Thunder which allowed the Toowoomba team to regroup.
The hosts weren’t to be denied further goals for long as Caty Turner grabbed her first, followed by late strikes from Welfare and player-coach Lorena Maggio to improve the final scoreline to 7-0 for Pride.
Speaking post-match, Maggio was understandably delighted with proceedings.
“I reckon we played some really entertaining football and we scored some spectacular goals so the girls should be really happy with that,” Maggio said.

Thunder coach Anthony Bigby predicted a different result in his side’s next outing.
“We know there are some things we can work on and I think next week’s match at home will be a very different story,” Bigby said.
