The Gap v Moreton Bay

The Gap Women rollicked to a fifth straight win in overpowering Moreton Bay United Women 13-0 at Walton Bridge Reserve on Saturday night.

Leah Curtis hit a season-high five goals and was joined regularly on the scoresheet to help Gators make it nine unbeaten.

Ruth Blackburn began the ambush inside a minute and the midfielder added second just over 10 minutes later as the hosts leapt to an early 2-0 lead.

Bec Price was next on the scoresheet within moments before Bethany Ashton was on hand to turn home Suzy Roeger’s intial effort and make it 4-0.

Leah Curtis made it 5-0 within 25 minutes by shotting low into the bottom corner as Gators continued to overwhelm the winless visitors.

The hosts’ dream first half was tainted somewhat by an injury to captain Price before the break.

With Blackburn assuming the armband, there was little lost in the way of goalscoring as Roeger and two more from Curtis blew the scoreline out to 8-0 by the 55th minute.

Dynamic midfielder Curtis grabbed her fourth and Gators’ ninth shortly after the hour with double figures looming inevitably.

The 10th arrived with 15 minutes remaining when Gabe Marzano and Ashton combined to help Roeger notched her second.

Five minutes later, substitute Jess Dillon opened her account courtesy of a Roeger pass.

Leah Curtis found time to notch a new personal best for the season with a fifth of the evening while Roeger closed out a wholly one-sided affair by completing her hattrick.

Speaking after the match, Gators coach Rob Askew was pleased by his side’s relentless attitude.

“For where we are on the table you expect to win those games but there’s a risk you can compromise your standards. I thought we maintained a good level for the whole game,” Askew said.

Jets coach Gary Ward deferred praise to the opposition’s class.

“The Gap were pretty clinical in front of goal and the scoreline reflects that,” Ward said.
