Congratulations to Trent Clulow from the Brisbane Strikers who has collected the award as the Total Compression NPL Player of the Month for April.
After a slower than expected start to the season for the Strikers, Clulow impressed the judges by playing a major part in his side’s revival in climbing to their current third-place in the league while also scoring two goals.
Explaining the slow start and his role in the team Clulow said,
“I think we as a group have been great all through pre-season with just a couple of hiccups on the way. There’s a few critical moments in games where Kev has identified we need to sharpen up and improve on but as a whole and collectively we feel when we show up that we can beat any team.”
Strikers coach Kevin A’herne-Evans is playing Clulow in a slightly different role this year. Normally accustomed to a right-wing role, a switch to the left and playing in the ‘number 10’ role just behind the striker, Clulow is every the team player.
“It’s just working in with a good bunch of players where my strengths really shine in this team.”
“I think this year we’re a lot more attacking and it’s showing in the amount of goals we’re scoring in comparison to last year (five more goals than the same stage as last year) but we’re still maintaining our strength in defence.”
Clulow who once played professionally overseas looks to have shelved repeating such ambitions with home and family life now playing a more important role.
“I’m just trying to do the best on the park with the Strikers this year. I obviously want to go one step better in the league and the final this year and see where it goes from there.”
Congratulations from everyone at QSN and Total Compression for your award Trent.
