Congratulations to UQFC’s Linus Schibler who has been named the Total Compression Brisbane Premier League (BPL) Player of the Month for February. Schibler impressed the judging panel with his goal keeping efforts that have helped steer his new club to two wins in their opening two BPL matches. His form against Premiers Peninsula Power was particularly impressive where he pulled off several sharp saves in the dying minutes to ensure maximum points.

The goal keeper comes to UQFC after spending time at the NPL’s Brisbane City in recent years. He has followed previous coach Glen Volker, who has returned to St Lucia. Schiber explaining why he made the move, “I trust Glen’s coaching. I think he’s a fantastic coach. Now also under David (Da Silva – UQFC Coach) who I also think is a fantastic coach, it’s the first time he’s coached me. Trusting Glen is what brought me over. Knowing he would bring in quality players as well so we could have a real crack at this season.”

While the atmosphere in the squad is at a high, a warning came for the side not to get ahead of themselves, “The hard work is all still ahead of us. We couldn’t have asked for a better start. We’ve now set our base and we can’t go below that. We have to keep the momentum going for the rest of the season and we have to work harder than we ever have.”

Schibler’s season last year was curtailed by injury but that hasn’t stopped him from having lofty goals with the aim of becoming a professional footballer in the A-League but until that happens, it’s all about playing better week by week.

Linus and his UQFC team mates will be hoping to keep their perfect record intact this evening when they meet Logan Lightning who have also won their opening two matches. Assessing the match-up, “We need to get a result. If we don’t, we take a look at what happened, fix mistakes and move on to next week. It’s a week by week proposition at the moment, we just play the best football we can.”

Kickoff is at 8:30pm and with UQFC’s grounds out of action at the moment, the match will be played at The Gap’s home ground, Walton Bridge Reserve.

Congratulations from Total Compression and QSN on your award Linus.
