Former Socceroo formally recognised

If you’re heading down to Gold Coast City/Palm Beach this season, you will come across a different name to the Mallawa Complex’s main field.

Despite being renamed by the Gold Coast City Council in 2009, the Mallawa’s main field will now officially be known as ‘Duncan McKenna Field’ in fixture lists. This honours the former Socceroo and his contribution to the club where he was a foundation member and as the sign points out, influenced the lives of hundreds of men and women.

McKenna also made his mark on Ipswich football in a golden era where he was amongst a number of players selected from local clubs for international duty.

It’s fitting recognition for someone who put much hard effort into supporting the game. So if you see Duncan McKenna Field on your fixture list this season, you’ll know where you’re heading.
