Lady Jets grounded?

Could the NPL Senior Womens competition have a club withdraw at the eleventh hour for the second year in succession?

Sources have informed QSN that Moreton Bay are on the brink of formally pulling out after suspicions were raised over the weekend when their pre-season match against Souths was cancelled. A Football Queensland spokesperson confirmed the match had been cancelled but refused to answer questions around the circumstances of why the game was called off.

Moreton Bay are not included in a list of clubs to play pre-season games this weekend in Ipswich. All other eleven Senior Womens NPL clubs are in the fixture list as well as Northern Fury.

When asked whether the Jets had withdrawn, the spokesperson replied, “At this point in time, all participation licences previously announced for the National Premier Leagues Women’s Queensland season remain unchanged.”

QSN had also attempted to contact Moreton Bay to seek a formal response.

Last year, Redlands had their womens participation licence terminated in the week leading up to the competition’s start.

The Jets struggled in last year’s competition where they won just one game, including an 18-0 loss in the final round to Palm Beach where they could only field ten players.
