IMG_2541Peninsula has overturned a penalty shootout loss to Moreton Bay in the pool stages to come out 4-1 winners in Saturday night’s Cup Final.

Jacob Fulluck gave the Jets a 1-0 halftime lead but three goals in a ten-minute period during the second half to Peninsula through David Salin, Kado Aoci and a Charles Mendy penalty sealed the win. Aoci added a cherry to the top late in the encounter.

Defence was at the fore in the first half as both sides struggled to find traction in their respective attacking third.

When they did so though, it was Peninsula who had the better in the opening twenty-five minutes. Mendy, Jared Austin and Aoci all placed pressure on the Jets defensive line without success.

The match looked set to be turned on its head when Moreton Bay’s Alex Janovsky was shown a straight red for a challenge on Chris Swain. However, the momentum swung the Jets way.

Fulluck, who had only just entered the action from the bench, pierced into the Moreton Bay box and was on hand when Jake Reesby failed to keep hold of an earlier shot.

Reesby succumbed to injury prior to the halftime break and substituted by Brad Burrows.

Salin returned Power back to level footing from outside the box.

Aoci delivered a bullet-like attempt that gave Matt Stein little chance to give the Power the lead.

Moments later he was involved again as Stein’s attempted clearance thumped into the head of a player, Aoci collecting the scraps and a Jets defence at sixes and sevens knocked him down in the box.

Former Jets player Mendy made up for his miss in the pool penalty shootout loss, despite Stein almost getting fingertips to the attempt.

Peninsula continued to have the better of the remainder of the match and Aoci was able to claim a double two minutes before the fulltime whistle.

The two clubs will start their respective league campaigns in the coming weeks. Peninsula meet UQFC next Sunday in the Brisbane Premier League while Moreton Bay will travel to Brisbane City, two weeks from tonight in the start of the NPL.

In the earlier 3rd v 4th playoff, Olympic defeated Gold Coast City 3-1.
