Easts shutout thunderstorm

Easts have found their first win of the BLK Silver Boot with a 4-0 defeat of SWQ Thunder in their Sunday afternoon matchday two clash.

A double to Carter Glockner with Toru Amano and Andy Coyne scoring sealed the three points for the defending champions.

The opening goal came courtesy of Daniel Cunha playing a ball through for Glockner who got in behind the defence, zeroed in on Luke Borean and then calmly slotted away.

From there, Easts wrestled control of the match. A second almost resulted when Costa Psaros played provider for Glockner but fell foul of the assistant’s flag.

Amano had a couple of chances for Easts within a five minute period having one saved by Borean while the other was headed over the bar from a free kick played in.

There were encouraging signs for the Thunder midway through the period. Matt Carey had two opportunities but shot wide once and second time round, directed straight to Easts keeper Tom Carroll.

Long range efforts from Glockner and Killian Flavin saw easy collects for Borean.

With the ascendency in attack, Easts should have had the match wrapped up at halftime having a total of twelve shots to the Thunder’s two who struggled without the attacking flair of Mustafa Jafari.

Amano’s first effort of the second stanza let him down after good leadup play from Nelson Burgess and Glockner.

A minute later, Glockner was involved again. He played square for Amano who was finally able to find the net.

The match went into a lull after that but livened up again with twenty minutes to play.

Andy Coyne was denied by Borean when perhaps the better play was to play off a pass for Daniel Cunha in better position.

Borean continued to keep his side in the match brilliantly saving Jarod Lancaster.

Indecision cost Thunder’s Kimba Kimboso. He had almost too much time and after what seemed like an eternity, got his shot away that was saved by Carroll. Had he taken it first time, it may well have been a different story.

Thunder withstood a barrage of corners in the final five minutes.

Andy Coyne got on the scoresheet on the stroke of fulltime despite complaints from the Thunder that he was offside.

Coyne then had a shot saved by Borean in stoppage time, the rebound falling to Carter Glockner who pounced to collect a brace.
