Virginia announce high-profile coach signing

Former Sunshine Coast Fire coach Richard Hudson has been appointed as Virginia United head coach for 2016.

It’s a major coup for the Brisbane Capital League Three club who are looking to push up the Football Brisbane hierarchy after pulling off one of the major upsets in 2015 in knocking out the Brisbane Premier League’s Capalaba from the FFA Cup.

Hudson led the Fire to two Premiership and two Grand Final wins in the Queensland State League, the pre-cursor to the National Premier Leagues, between 2010 and 2012.

In 2013 and 2014, he coached Sunshine Coast Premier League club Caloundra FC who eliminated the Fire from the 2014 FFA Cup before being narrowly defeated by Palm Beach 1-0 in the step prior to the final 32.

Most recently he was the Fire’s Community Development Officer where his role was to strengthen relationships between the NPL club and local Sunshine Coast clubs and schools.

Virginia start pre-season training on Tuesday 12 January.
