The NPL fixtures have been released today by Football Queensland. Here’s a quick sneak peak at the men’s draw with the opening round encounters.
Newly named Gold Coast City will open up the 2016 NPL Senior Men’s competition on Saturday 27 February at the Mallawa Complex. Their opponents will be 2015 rapid improvers, Redlands.
SWQ Thunder who have shown serious signs of intent in the off-season signing market will host Northern Fury.
Brisbane Strikers will be at ‘home’ but are the visitors in their first fixture against Brisbane Roar Youth.
Incoming Brisbane City coach John Kosmina will get an immediate taste of where his side’s progress is at with 2015 Premiers Moreton Bay making the short trek to Newmarket.
In the fifth game on a busy opening Saturday, two of last year’s battlers will meet in Ipswich when Western Pride and Sunshine Coast clash.
The lone Sunday fixture sees FNQ Heat travel to Olympic’s Goodwin Park, the first time in four seasons that the northern club will meet an opponent other than neighbours Fury in round one.
That’s the start for the men. Later, we’ll have an analysis of the full draws for both the men’s and women’s senior competitions.
