Logan score pre-Christmas win

After being defeated by one Piddick last week, Logan coach Nick Croydon has picked up a 3-2 win against Moreton Bay’s Adam at Cornubia Park on Saturday.

On a hot afternoon where drink breaks were required midway through each half, it took until the 27th minute for the scoring to open. Logan’s Richard Greer converting a free kick from an angle that caught the Moreton Bay defence ball-watching as the ball sailed into the back of the net.

Shortly after the half hour, Sunshine Coast Fire signing Jacob Fulluck was deemed to have been fouled in the box in a dubious penalty decision from which Jordan Farina conveted the spot kick to make it 1-1.

Jake Sherwood restored Logan’s lead with five minutes to the halftime break as he too was able to take advantage of a napping defence, heading home a free header into the far post. The Jets defensive effort, particularly in the first half will give those in charge food for thought.

His brother Josh doubled Logan’s advantage out to two goals with the second penalty of the match near the hour mark.

The Jets almost narrowed the margin shortly after with ‘keeper Nick Moore proving to be the last line of defence after a solid run from Finn Beakhurst forced a close range save.

Moore wasn’t as successful second time as Fulluck in the 71st minute went on a similar run, tucking the ball away to bring the score back to 3-2.

Lightning withstood a late Moreton Bay charge, Moore excellent again in denying an equaliser attempt through former Fire captain Reyze Kelly with 10 minutes to go.

For Logan, this result provided a confidence boost going into the Christmas break after last week’s defeat. The Sherwood brothers who made the move from Capalaba in the off-season were particularly influential for their team on the day.

A large part of Moreton Bay’s success last season was based on an improved backline and the Jets have effectively lost all of last year’s defensive unit. After today’s effort, there is plenty to work on in gelling the new look line-up after Logan was able to win ball uncontested on many occasions. Of course it is still early doors and many high profile recruits did not make an appearance today including Matt Stein, Matt Byrne and Alex Janovsky.
