Pre-season preparations continue

With Christmas just around the corner, here’s where to catch your last glimpses of football for 2015.

Saturday 19 December

Logan Lightning host their second successive pre-season friendly against another NPL club, this time in 2015 Premiers Moreton Bay United.

Logan will be looking to improve on their 3-1 loss to Gold Coast City last Saturday. For Moreton Bay, it will be their first hitout with a new look line-up after the departure of key members from last season’s squad.

Kickoff is 4pm at Cornubia Park.

Another Premiership winning club also plays their first friendly with an all-Brisbane Premier League match as Lions travel to Capalaba.

Like Moreton Bay, Lions have also suffered key losses in the off-season and coach Warren Moon will be keen to see whether the new recruits have what it takes to launch back-to-back Premiership wins.

For the Bulldogs, it marks Geoff Hurford’s first pre-season as the club’s head coach. He too has had to contend with players moving on.

Reserves at 4pm with the firsts kicking off at 6pm at John Fredericks Park.

Rounding out a day of 2015 Premiers getting back onto the park, promoted Capital 3 Bardon Latrobe make the trek to Capital 2 Oxley.

Bardon, fresh off re-signing coach David Bounds, will provide a first look at who can make the step up to the higher level.

Meanwhile, Oxley will be aiming to improve on a disappointing end to last season where at one stage they looked to be headed for promotion only to be bundled out of the finals at the first hurdle.

Reserves start at 3pm with firsts at 5pm.

Sunday 20 December

North Pine will be looking to replicate last year’s victory in the traditional pre-Christmas meeting against near neighbours Peninsula Power.

The match takes on extra significance this year with North Pine’s promotion back into the Brisbane Premier League as both sides look to take a psychological edge into the season proper.

Ressies kick off at 2pm with the main affair at 4pm at AJ Kelly Field.

Tuesday 22 December

Lions have a quick back-up from Saturday as they face 2013 NPL Premiers Olympic.

Both sides look contenders again for their respective competitions so it promises to be a high-quality match-up.

The match starts at 7:30pm at Brisbane Force’s CJ Greenfield Reserve.
