It seems that some of you have been missing your football fix as we’ve had a few enquiries about where to catch pre-season matches. You’re in luck, here’s matches taking place in the south-east this weekend.
Friday 11 December
Logan Metro make their entry into Football Brisbane competitions for the 2016 season and one of the most anticipated fixtures will be against near-neighbours and fellow Capital 4 side Logan Village. This will be an early taste of this rivalry at Village’s Big River Country Park with reserves kicking off at 6:30pm and firsts at 8:30pm.
Saturday 12 December
It will be the opportunity to get a look at the artist formerly known as Palm Beach with the brand spanking newly-named Gold Coast City set to make their debut against the Brisbane Premier League’s Logan Lightning.
With good friends Nick Croydon and Grae Piddick at the helm of their respective clubs, it’s becoming a tradition for these two sides to meet in the pre-Christmas period. Get along to Cornubia Park for a 3pm kickoff for the reserves/youth with the firsts squads playing at 5pm.
The women’s squads will feature at 1pm pitting last year’s Brisbane Women Premier League Premiership winners against the NPL’s Grand Final runner-up, albeit with Gold Coast City fielding a revamped line-up from the one that was defeated by The Gap.
If Western Pride coach Graham Harvey was looking for a good opportunity to see where his squad is at in their pre-season preparations, he won’t get too many better opportunities than a contest against the winner of the last three Brisbane Premier League Grand Finals in Peninsula Power.
Conversely, it might provide Power coach Terry Kirkham with an early opportunity to unleash his new all-star goal-scoring arsenal in Kado Aoci and Charles Mendy who have linked up with the Redcliffe-based club.
That match will be at Western Spirit’s Goodna grounds, Kippen Park with the match commencing at 3pm.
More Brisbane Capital League action, this time in the north with Capital 4 Kangaroo Point Rovers sure to pack their cut lunch as they make the long trek out to Capital 3 Narangba. Ressies at 3pm with firsts at 5pm.
Another double header, this time at Capital 2 Oxley’s Dunlop Park as they host Cap 3 AC Carina. Reserves kickoff at 3pm while the firsts go around at 5pm.
Newly promoted Brisbane Premier League club, North Pine, will have their first hitout against Capital 2 club, The Gap. Three games to catch with under 18’s at 3pm, reserves kickoff at 5pm and firsts at 7pm at Bob Brock Park, Dakabin.
