A-League comes to the far north

Cairns will host its first A-League match on Saturday afternoon when the Brisbane Roar travel to the tropical north to meet the Wellington Phoenix.

With the Roar’s usual home base of Suncorp Stadium unavailable due to the venue hosting concerts, it provides the opportunity for locals to get an up close look at what promises to be an entertaining encounter with the sides separated by just one point on the competition ladder and looking to remain in the top six.

A host of events have been organised during the week, kicking off on Wednesday with a public meet-and-greet at Endeavour Park from 6pm.

Plenty of activities will take place on Thursday where plenty of autographs and photos can be obtained. These include:

  • 2pm-5pm: A kick around in the Rebel Roar Zone inflatable fields on the Cairns Esplanade where players will also sign autographs and posing for photos.
  • 4pm-5pm: Meet Roar players at the Cairns Central Shopping Centre Telstra store.
  • 4pm-5pm: Autograph signing and photos with players at the Showgrounds Shopping Centre Rebel Sports store.

An open training session will occur on Friday from 7.30am to 10am at Cazalys Stadium. Admission is free.

Tickets to Saturday’s game start at $20 (adults) and $15 (children). To book tickets go to Ticketdirect.com.au or use the link bit.ly/CairnsTickets. Gates open at Cazalys Stadium at 3pm with kick off at 4.15pm.
