New Farm Clinch Promotion

Jake Goodship steered New Farm in their promotion to Capital League Two on Friday night with a hard fought 2-0 away win against Ridge Hills at Stanley Day Park.

It was a very scrappy first forty minutes of the contest with neither side gaining much traction in the final third but the hosts shaded the early excursions.

Hills best chances came through corners, one of which forced New Farm to clear off the line from a looping header.

New Farm weathered the storm and when a mix up at the back occurred for the hosts, Jake Goodship was on hand to storm in and fire the ball past the advancing Hills keeper into the bottom left corner.

It took the inner city side just three minutes to find the net again. This time a corner was delivered in and the towering Goodship rose high to execute a diagonal header into the top right hand corner.

The second half was a scruffy display with very few chances as New Farm were happy to settle for the two goal buffer and end the season on a high gaining promotion into Brisbane’s third tier.

New Farm now head into a preliminary final clash with Acacia Ridge in the first week of the finals while Ridge Hills’ season is over with planning for 2016 able to commence.
