Acacia Ridge sealed promotion and the premiership in Capital League 3, with a 1 – 0 win over Toowong Football Club.
Acacia Ridge arrived at Dunmore Park knowing a win would secure the premiership and promotion to Capital League 2, while second place Toowong were looking to keep the title race alive.
Acacia Ridge had the early ascendency with the majority of play happening in Toowong’s half of the field.
Chances were few and far between with the first real opportunity of the half falling to Ridge’s Luka Ilic in the 18th minute.
Ilic broke through the defensive line and released a cracking strike from just outside the 6 yard box, Michael Ryan made a top shelf effort look ordinary with a clinical save.
Toowong bounced back well and looked the better of the two sides for the rest of the half, aside from a defensive error in the 39th minute, which almost cost them a goal.
The fruits of their labour only begin to show right at the back end of the half with a chance falling to Pedro Gondim in the 45th minute and a cross very nearly finding the net in injury time.
The game continued in a similar fashion in the start of the second half, Toowong were on top with Acacia Ridge just looking to strike on the counter.
Despite their domination Toowong failed to create any real chances with Ridge’s central defence proving very strong.
Another counter from Ridge gave Ilic a golden chance to put his team in front in the 76th minute but he failed to capitalise.
In a somewhat fitting finish to the premiership race, Juan Jaimes, top scorer in Capital League 3, got the ball on the counter, beat his defender, the goal keeper and found the back of the net in the 81st minute.
Toowong continued to push for the rest of the game but continued to get frustrated by Ridge’s central defence.
