Liverpool train in front of large local crowd

Liverpool has turned Brisbane into a sea of red with a series of events on Thursday culminating in a training session in front of almost 8,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium.

Large crowds have been gathered in King George Square all day where signing sessions with legends of the club and the revealing of the club’s 2015/16 away kit took place.

It was at the training session though where locals got their first look at the squad that will take place on Friday evening against the Brisbane Roar.

Speaking prior to the session, Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers looked forward to the match and what his club might expect based on their experience in Melbourne two years ago

“It was an incredible evening, the whole night, the supporters travelling from all over Australia to be there. I’m sure the same will be tomorrow evening.”

Rodgers was impressed by what he saw last time around in Australia when his side played the Victory.

“I spoke to the manager who is now the national manager (Ange Postecoglou) and to know the philosophy you’re trying to follow in Australian football and it’s pretty clear the identity of the way the teams are playing, very expansive attacking football.”

“Teams playing 4-3-3 and obviously you get very talented players. Each season you see the players and the teams improving.”

imageSpeaking about tomorrow night’s opponents, Rodgers was highly complimentary of incoming Roar coach John Aloisi and goalkeeper Jamie Young with whom Rodgers worked at Reading FC with.

“John was an excellent player, he came into England and did very, very well. I’ve looked into his history and he’s done his work. He’s worked in development football with the youth, he’s worked with a first team and obviously he’s come to here.”

“Jamie Young was a player I took from Australia when I was the academy director at Reading. He was a wonderful boy to work with, always hungry to learn.”

“I’ve looked at the system and team and they (Roar) play wonderful football and it will be a good test for us.”

Kickoff for the match is at 6:45pm Friday night at Suncorp Stadium with TV coverage on GO and radio coverage on the ABC.
