Friday night wrap – 29 May 2015

It’s been a busy night with matches that have shaped how the remainder of the season will play out. Here’s what’s been happening:

NPL QUEENSLAND

Redlands opened the scoring early against the Brisbane Strikers through Lyndon Dykes in the 4th minute and were able to hold that 1-0 lead into the break. Igor Sao Jose extended the lead out to 2-0 in the 57th before Jheison Macuace gave the Strikers a chance at the end through a penalty with five minutes to play. Redlands recording a 2-1 win in the end, continuing their recent improvement.

Olympic have inflicted Moreton Bay’s first league loss of the season, Tim Smits scoring a hat-trick for the second week in a row in his side’s 4-2 win. Olympic had a 2-1 lead at the break with goals to Smits and Sam Cronin with Charles Mendy pulling one back three minutes before the break. Royce Brownlie had a golden chance for an equaliser with the last kick of the first half from the penalty spot but skewed his attempt uncharateristically wide. A further goal to Smits made it Olympic 3-1 in the second half before Mendy again reduced the deficit, this time from the spot. Smits ensured the three points for Olympic in the 77th minute.

BRISBANE PREMIER LEAGUE

A see-sawing match between Mitchelton and Peninsula Power, Michael McGowan and Paul Mikula giving Mitchie a 2-0 lead midway through the first half before Jonathan Marraiya and Shaun Feuerriegel pulled it back on level terms at the break. Marraiya then gave Power the advantage within five minutes after the break before Mikula equalised for Mitchelton on the hour. It would be the home side who would take the win, Michael McGowan looked to have scored the winner four minutes from time but Jared Austin cracked a master strike in stoppage time for both sides to share the spoils in a 4-4 draw.
