NPL QUEENSLAND

Olympic had all the key stats their way in the first half but couldn’t convert into scoreboard results in their match against Northern Fury, the sides going into the break at 0-0.

The tide turned quickly in the second half with Danny Byrne converting two penalties for Olympic inside the first six minutes. Fury were able to gain a numerical advantage when Darren Gray was sent off with ten minutes remaining but Michael Lee scored in the 90th minute to give Olympic a 3-0 lead. Some late hope for the Fury when they were awarded a stoppage time penalty but Joe Thornton was unable to convert.

Paul O’Brien opened the scoring for Capalaba midway through the first half and that was enough to give them a halftime lead. Lions equalised five minutes into the second half as Kado Aoci was brought down in the box, Shoheel Khan converting the resulting penalty. O’Brien was sent off for the Bulldogs and the game looked destined to fizzling out to a draw until a stoppage time penalty, this one converted by Andre Bonotto saw Lions take the three points and maintain the lead at the top of the table.

They’re two sides not normally known for scoring a lot of goals but they both turned it on tonight. Easts opened the scoring in the first three minutes before a reply from Taringa deep into first half stoppage time sent the two sides into the sheds level at 1-all.

Taringa scored shortly after the restart before Easts added three in the first fifteen minutes of the second half to take a 4-2 lead. Taringa pulling one back in the 73rd minute but not enough to claim the win.
