Saturday night wrap – 16 May 2015

As always, a busy Saturday around the grounds and some upsets, drama and surprising results. Here’s the wrap-up.

NPL QUEENSLAND

Kristian Rees opened the scoring for Palm Beach as Moreton Bay conceded the opening goal for the second week in a row but like last week against the Western Pride, Jets turned on the afterburners to claim a 4-1 win with Royce Brownlie claiming a hat-trick and Joseph Champness claiming the other. Match report

Brady Cronk scored first for the Sunshine Coast Fire in the opening quarter of an hour but three unanswered Brisbane Roar goals to Nick D’Agostino, Sam Sibatuara and Mitch Hore saw the Fire’s four match winning streak ended as the Roar took away the three points in a 3-1 victory. Match report

In the second match of a Perry Park double header, Brisbane Strikers claimed an easy 6-0 win over a SWQ Thunder side that were reduced to 10 men after half an hour. Jheison Macuace with a double and goals to Trent Clulow, Greg King, Josh McVey and Scot Coulson made up the half dozen. Match report

Redlands scored first through Igor Sao Jose before a goal either side of halftime to Charlie Beverley and Alex Smith put FNQ Heat ahead 2-1. Lyndon Dykes equalised for Redlands on the hour mark at 2-2. Heat missed a penalty with 10 minutes to go and Graham Fyfe made the home side pay for that scoring an 83rd minute winner that gave Redlands a second win in a row, this week 3-2.

BRISBANE PREMIER LEAGUE

Emmanuel Peter gave the Ipswich Knights a 1-0 halftime lead over Rochedale but it was an incident packed second half that will make the headlines. Rochedale equalised through Nick Wilson on 49 minutes before drama erupted with the send-off of Rochedale’s Phil Davies on the hour mark.

Seiji Shizuno looked to have wrapped the match up for Rochedale in the 88th minute after the send-off of Ipswich Knights Taiga, ten minutes from time. The drama wasn’t yet over as two injury time goals to the Knights saw them claim the three points with a 3-2 win.

Logan have suffered their first loss of the season, upset by Wolves 2-1 at Chris Green Park.
