Kawana force their way through to Fire match-up

Kawana scored a comprehensive 5-1 victory against Noosa Lions to emerge as the team that will represent the Sunshine Coast Premier League in the remaining stages of the FFA Cup.

Jeremy Stewart got the Force off to the best of starts, capitalising on a pin-point cross in the seventh minute from fellow former Sunshine Coast Fire player, DJ Firth, to put his side ahead 1-0.

Despite Kawana creating plenty of chances, it would be Noosa who scored next, bringing the match back on a level footing ten minutes before the halftime break to send the sides into the sheds at one goal apiece.

Another former Fire player, Ryan Delahunty, gave his side the lead again on fifty-two minutes, turning his defender to beat the keeper at the near post.

Twenty minutes into the second half, it was Delahunty again, the current Sunshine Coast Premier League Golden Boot leader, who further extended Kawana’s advantage. He latched onto a ball from Ryan Smith then composed himself to place the ball across the keeper’s body.

A Noosa defensive error gifted Kawana their fourth midway through the second half. Aiden Little adding to the Lions’ bad night at the office picking up on a poor backpass by the Noosa defensive unit

Completing the scoring for the night, Firth launched a mesmorising effort from outside the penalty area to make it 5-1 with seventeen minutes to play.

The win continues the Force’s 2015 unbeaten run and once again, showed their attacking prowess. That now tallies to sixteen goals in three cup matches added to a return of forty-three from seven league matches.

Kawana will meet NPL side Sunshine Coast Fire in the next round of the Cup, hoping to replicate the efforts of fellow Premier League club, Caloundra, who defeated the Fire in a penalty shoot-out last year.
