Brisbane FFA Cup draw throws up tantalising ties

The Brisbane component of the FFA Cup draw for rounds six and seven was completed this morning and from the perspective of the neutral observer, it couldn’t have been much better. One non-NPL side will be guaranteed of making the FFA Cup final 32.

The first match drawn out of the bowl was an all-Trophy Superstore Premier League clash with current table-toppers Lions and their coach Warren Moon meeting his former side in Peninsula Power.

The second match sees an all-NPL matchup with Brisbane Strikers hosting Moreton Bay. Those two sides figuring in a 1-1 league draw a matter of weeks ago at the same place that this tie will take place at, Perry Park.

Match three sees Redlands at home again where Igor Sao Jose and Mitch Bird will figure against their old side Ipswich Knights.

The final match in round six is an all-Capital 1 encounter between near-neighbours and arch-rivals Pine Rivers and North Pine. The sides fighting out a torrid 2-2 draw in the league two weeks ago.

Round 6 matches are scheduled for 19-21 May.

Round 7 was also drawn at the same time.

The winner of Redlands and Ipswich Knights will host either Brisbane Strikers or Moreton Bay.

Lions or Peninsula will meet the winner of Pine Rivers and North Pine.

Round 7 matches are scheduled for 2-4 June.

The winners of those round 7 clashes will be the two sides to represent Brisbane in the FFA Cup final 32 where the A-League sides enter the competition.
