Fire causes damage at Brisbane’s Eastern Suburbs club

Brisbane club, Eastern Suburbs suffered damage on Saturday morning after a fire gutted the popular Hungry Tiger canteen, causing smoke damage through the clubhouse.

NPL Queensland Womens matches were shifted away from Heath Park at very late notice to Redlands, Club President Glen Brown acknowledging and thanking Redlands for their assistance on the TRSC forum.

The club is without power and water after the fire but hopeful that would be restored on Sunday afternoon. The aim being that training can resume during the week and games can be played next weekend. Easts are scheduled to meet Mitchelton next Saturday night in the Trophy Superstore Premier League at Heath Park.

Easts suffered major damage to their clubhouse in Brisbane’s 2011 floods, causing it to be rebuilt.

A bright spot on the day was the Mens Trophy Superstore Premier League side recording their second win of the season, 2-0 at Capalaba, the Bulldogs were major contributors in the rebuild of Easts after the floods, now recognised on an annual basis when the two clubs play for the ‘Salvation Saturday Shield’.

The NPL Queensland Womens side went top of the table after accounting for South-West Queensland Thunder 14-0 in the match shifted to the Cleveland Showgrounds.
