Victory sign Turnbull as injury replacement

Brisbane Strikers goalkeeper, Michael Turnbull, has been signed by the A-League’s Melbourne Victory as a replacement player to cover for injured Queensland product, Nathan Coe who has been ruled out of the Victory’s finals campaign with a back injury.

Turnbull joined the Strikers mid-last season and impressed many during his side’s FFA Cup campaign and with ambitions of joining an A-League club, reportedly rejected an approach from a top German club towards the end of last year.

With an impressive pedigree, he was part of the Olyroos squad at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, played in the National Soccer League for Marconi, the A-League for the now-defunct New Zealand Knights and had stints overseas in Italy, Belgium and England.

The Strikers meet Olympic in tonight’s NPL Queensland round 7 match at Goodwin Park. Unconfirmed at time of publication but with his signing at the Victory, it would be expected that the Strikers will be without Turnbull’s services for that match.
