REGIONAL WRAP-UP – WEEKEND 10-12 APRIL – PART 2

Part two of our Regional Wrap-up sees us take a look at what transpired in Far North Queensland, North Queensland, Mackay and Toowoomba over the weekend.

FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 3

Despite Dimitri Toumazos’s goal, it wasn’t enough for Marlin Coast to claim a victory over Southside Comets, the Comets coming away 4-1 winners at home to record their first win of the season.

Mareeba picked up where they left off last season in their opening match of the campaign but didn’t have it all their own way. Former Australian representative, Wayne Srhoj’s goal was the only one scored in the Bulls 1-0 victory against Edge Hill.

Leichhardt picked up an easy victory against Innisfail, 5-1. Justin Sabbadin and Darcy Fernandez picked up doubles with Simon Fernandez the other contributor for the Lions, Kevin Lutsokert netting for the home side.

Stratford had the bye.

NORTH QUEENSLAND PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 3

Northern Fury claimed a 5-1 victory against Wulguru, Mark Robinson was the goal scorer for Wulguru.

Goals to Brett Dunstan and Robin Edwards ensured that MA Olympic backed up their recent FFA Cup win against Rebels, taking that into the league with a 2-0 victory.

Saints Eagles Souths recorded their first three points for 2015, defeating Burdekin 2-1. Campbell Hume and Reid Murray doing the damage for the victors while Josh Searle scored for Burdekin.

Warriors were another side to again defeat recent FFA Cup competition and gain some revenge for their 2014 Grand Final loss, triumphing 2-1 over Brothers. Matthew Depaoli amongst the Warriors goal scorers with Sean Howe finding the net for Brothers.

A Kristian Vechhio hat trick for Ross River wasn’t enough to snuff out Ingham. Mark Martino with a brace and Mark Stokes ensuring that their side would claim a point in a high-scoring 3-3 draw.

MACKAY PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 1

The season opened in Mackay last weekend with Whitsunday continuing on their FFA Cup form in a tight 2-1 win against Crusaders. Mitchell Clarke and Joel Smith scoring for the Airlie Beach based club, Daniel Scotton for Crusaders.

Daniel Stewart-McLean and Peter Van Den Bogert ensured Lions 3-0 win against Country United while Wanderers accounted for last year’s Premiers, Magpies in a tight 3-2 result. Perennial goal scorer Michael Lyall and Liam Shipton accounting for Magpies goals.

City Brothers had the bye.

TOOWOOMBA PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 3

3-1 was the favoured scoreline in round three. St Albans suffered their first loss of the season, going down to Gatton 3-1. Wanderers made sure they stayed at the top of the table, defeating USQ 3-1 while reigning Premiers Willowburn have already lost more games in 2015 than they did in 2014, South Hawks accounting for them 3-1.
