Gold Coast Premier League and Wide Bay Three Cities League kick off this weekend

It’s not just the NPL Queensland and Football Brisbane leagues that kick off this weekend, two regional leagues get to see the first round of the competitive season as Football Gold Coast’s Premier League and Football Wide Bay’s Three Cities League get underway.

The Gold Coast sees Palm Beach re-enter the Premier League after a season down in first division. They replace Gold Coast Knights who the Sharks defeated in a two-legged playoff late last season. The other side moving into the top flight is the 2014 Division One Premiers, Magic United at the expense of Burleigh Heads. The two promoted sides will face off against each other in Round one on Saturday afternoon.

The other highlight of the opening round will be the top two 2014 teams meeting with Premiers and Grand Final winner Broadbeach hosting Murwillumbah on Sunday afternoon. The full list of fixtures are:

Gold Coast Premier League Round One Matches

Friday 8pm – Merrimac v Mudgeeraba, Merrimac Field

Saturday 5pm – Surfers Paradise v Coomera, Lex Bell Oval

Saturday 5pm – Magic United TFA v Palm Beach, Magic United Field

Wide Bay’s competition has a different look to it this year. With Gympie Diggers moving to the Sunshine Coast Premier League, the Four Cities League becomes the Three Cities League as Bundaberg clubs Diggers, Brothers Aston Villa, Alloway, Bingera, Across The Waves and United Park Eagles join Maryborough’s Doon Villa, Sunbury and Tinana with United Warriors KSS Jets and Fraser Flames from Hervey Bay.

That means that the league moves to an expanded twenty-two match home and away fixture rather than the one round that was played last year.

For the new boys, Fraser Flames, they will be spending a lot of time on the road in the opening eight weeks, playing all matches away awaiting their home ground at Fraser Coast Anglican College to be ready for competition.

One of the highlights from round one will be last year’s Premiers and Grand Final winners travelling to Hervey Bay to take on United Warriors who missed out on finals action by the barest of margins.

The full round one fixture list is:

Saturday 4pm – Diggers v Doon Villa, Diggers Grounds Bundaberg

Saturday 4pm – Sunbury v Brothers Aston Villa, Federation Park Maryborough

Saturday 5pm – Alloway v United Park Eagles, Alloway Grounds Bundaberg

Saturday 5pm – Bingera v Fraser Flames, Bingera Grounds Bundaberg

Saturday 5pm – United Warriors v Across The Waves, Hervey Bay Sports Fields

Saturday 6pm – Tinana v KSS Jets. Federation Park Maryborough
